What You Need To Know About Hiring An Event Caterer

Being put in charge of a big event can be quite daunting, especially if you’re told you’re also in charge of organizing the catering. We’ve put together this helpful guide to give you some tips on how to choose an event catering company you can rely on. Firstly, you need to know the requirements of both your event and your guests. Find out what sort of event it will be and whether a sit-down meal or buffet would be best, as well as how many vegetarians there are.

It’s also a really good idea to get some recommendations as to which catering company you should use so you know you’ll get a professional service. Experienced caterers are generally best as they’ll know exactly what they’re doing. Ask the management at the event venue if they have a preferred catering company as they can often be a reliable source of help. Also ask around your contacts to see who they’ve used in the past and whether they’d recommend them for other events.

Once you’ve drawn up a shortlist of potential catering companies for your event, you need to get some quotations so you can plan the cost more exactly and find out what they offer. Hold conversations with them and tell them your budget and requirements such as date, time and dietary needs of the guests. Any good company will be able to give you advice as to what works best if you’re unsure of exactly what you need so make sure you give them time to ask you questions, too.

You should then choose two or three potential companies from your list after you’ve obtained quotations from them. These are the companies you should get more detail from. All good companies will be able to meet your demands and provide you with any necessary information, so ask them for a plan of how they would manage the day so you know they’d be able to handle the work well and with competence. Also ask them for sample menus so you can see how they’d meet your requirements.

When it comes to making your final decision, you want to be absolutely sure you’re getting the right company so it can be a good idea to ask if you can attend another one of their events. This will tell you how they deal with the pressures and different situations of coping with a big event. You could also ask to try their food to make sure it’s up to standard. Also ask them for references from previous customers so you can get honest feedback on their work.

Viva Espana

Four weeks of football fever have finally come to a close as South Africa says goodbye to the World Cup. What an unpredictable tournament it’s been with shock results for all, the much fancied Brazil and Argentina teams failed to deliver on initial promise, England crashed and burned amidst feverish optimism surrounding the squad, and semi-final stalwarts France and Italy couldn’t even make it past the group stages.

The ever efficient Germans powered on to the semis, Uruguay warmed south American hearts and broke African ones, and The Netherlands made it to their first ever final. While all this madness was going on however, one thing remained constant, the tournament favourites for well over a year, Spain, played some sublime football and eventually emerged as worthy victors. Their effortless passing and devastating finishing ability shone through helping them to a hard earned maiden World Title.

Spain as a country is really on fire at the moment and as been for sometime within the sports arena, Rafael Nadal recently set Iberian hearts pounding as he stormed to a Second Wimbledon title. Outside of sports however, Spanish catering, which has always been somewhat over-shadowed by its French and Italian counterparts, is really creating a buzz at the moment.

Independent Tapas eateries are starting to spring up on high streets all over the UK , offering an exhilerating alternative to the tired Italian, Thai or Indian eating out debate. Spanish food is unique in that it is served not in clearly divided courses but as a continual stream of small and varied dishes specially made to tantilize your senses. The dishes are constructed from cured meats, fresh fish, rich cheeses, chickpeas, olives and roasted vegetables to name a few components, cooked and seasoned using a range of traditional methods.

Tapas can be treated as a posh sit-down meal or a casual snacking-platter which you can pick at while chatting at the bar enjoying a cold beer, or better still, a sherry! A Spanish meal could even form a dynamic and unique basis for a corporate Christmas Party this year. Just as Spain’s game is beautiful when they manipulate the ball with vigor and soul, their food is as exciting and skillfully prepared as their game-plan. Celebrate Spain winning their first World Cup with a slap-up tapas dinner.

Looking For Simple Ways To Find A Caterer

Festivals and occasions like a wedding or maybe a party can prove to be pretty tough to navigate. Especially if it is on a large scale and can involve a huge number of people. Usually it’s the food which makes or breaks a party or a social gathering of any sorts. Finding the perfect caterer will determine the successful outcome of any event.

High demands for the catering business has promoted the hospitality industry into a more professionalized area. An enormous social event such as a wedding is usually critiqued by all that attend. Let’s face it; weddings are a huge deal for everybody involved. New avenues of marketing have made it considerably easier to find a suitable, reputed caterer. For example the internet can prove to be a very useful tool in such cases.

The internet is the first avenue to check and can be an extremely useful tool. Typing specific keywords such as “wedding caterer” into a locally concentrated search engine provides one with a number of options. All one has to do is visit the site and go through the brochure if there is one and if it meets the expectations. Check the comment section to see how many other people have utilized this specific caterer’s services and the outcome. Obtain contact information and rate quotes for following up later. Due to the enormous reach of the internet one can avail the services of certain catering organizations run by renowned chefs. If you are familiar with a renowned chef and his/her quality, look for catering companies run by that individual.

Many people also prefer to employ catering services for a birthday party or a gathering to celebrate an important occasion. This is where one can use certain toll free helpline numbers which provide all the information needed regarding specialized catering services. This smaller scale need can be obtained by using toll free helpline numbers that provide information regarding specialized catering services in your area. A birthday party for a 10 year old would not have the same food tastes that adults at an engagement party may seek.

In the suburbs even daily newspapers and periodicals can be of a lot of help. A phone directory is regarded by many as a more restricted source of information but still has its traditional uses. Periodicals and daily newspapers can be of help in the suburbs. Small scale catering services start when there is a local need determined. With the methods listed above, it will be hard for you to not find a suitable doctor!

French Bread And Foodie Nights Out

Restaurants offering a variety of cuisines are dotted all over the country. They provide not just lip-smacking food but a great ambience too. And the best restaurants will have high standards of cleanliness as well as everything else. You can choose to sit in comfort and enjoy a leisurely meal at a host of restaurants or order a take-away meal that you can eat at your convenience elsewhere. You can sit back, bite on your French bread and have an entertaining evening with friends, family and loved ones.

One great advantage of eating at a restaurant is that you get to try a range of international cuisines, ranging from the Eastern to the Mediterranean. Arabic restaurants often offer great meat dishes or go for fine dining with French food. And before you get your main meal you can tuck into some nice French bread. Or you could choose a hot curry at an Indian eatery or everybody’s favourite, a Chinese. For something really special a five course meal at an Italian restaurant would be great. The antipasti is the first course and would be garlic bread or similar, next would be soup or another light bite for the second course. The main meal is centred around meat or fish and has side dishes to go with it. And then there is the dessert and the coffee.

However the food is not everything when it comes to eating at a restaurant. It is also important that the atmosphere is right. Most restaurants take great care of their decor, design and lighting to ensure a relaxing environment. A lot of restaurants liven up their interiors with vibrant colours and interesting posters, paintings or motifs. Some restaurants bring to their decor a touch of the culture of their country, so that your meal is a complete international experience. Music is another part of the ambience. Live bands or recorded music is often streamed into the space so you have some background noise whilst you are eating.

You can choose which restaurant to go to by thinking about your tastes, what time you have and if you feel casual or formal. Many restaurants offer power lunches for busy executives. If you have time, you could enjoy a lazy meal with some entertainment or choose a restaurant suited for a romantic evening out. You will be able to sup fine wines and beers at restaurants too. For those of you with a sweet tooth, there are a range of fine desserts, fresh fruit ice creams and desserts offered by most restaurants to pamper you.

People need lower shopping prices

Food shoppers across the UK are even more inclined to head for cheaper shopping malls as inflation on food prices has risen by another 8% since the beginning of the year, 2008. The latest TNS Worldpanel grocery market share figures, for the 12 weeks ending 25th January 2009, showed retailers’ premium ranges are suffering during this recession while ‘value’ ranges are doing really well. This is a clear sign that people are opting more for the much cheaper and more reasonable products in their supermarkets instead of spending out and going for the more reasonably priced goods.
Discount supermarket, Aldi saw an incredible 24.1% growth during the recession whilst ASDA and Morrisons saw growth of a mere 8.1% and 9.7% respectively. So where does this leave our leading supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury? Well, I am sure that they are still making plenty of money but considering the current economic climate it really is essential for major companies like these to lower prices and contribute to helping people around the country. Supermarket prices rising also means that other businesses will be affected. For example, catering companies from around the country will have to buy their produce at a more expensive rate which will directly affect their own profit margins. Caterers across the country will have to adjust their shopping lists and look for other alternatives. Making food more expensive for the public is not the way to help the country climb its way out of the credit crunch and supermarkets with more reasonable and cheaper food are really making the most of it as they are catering to people’s financial restraints.
Tesco’s market share slipped back as it lost out to rivals but it still reported growth of 30.7%. Frozen food retailer Iceland had a really strong Christmas with growth of 14%. Again, this is down to the fact that they have been lowering prices to suit the budget of the UK.
