How To Keep Your Coffee Beans Fresh

If you enjoy an espresso drink at home and took the plunge and purchased a pricey quality espresso machine such as the Gaggia Platinum Vision so you can have a latte or cappuccino anytime you would like the next challenge is how to keep your fresh beans fresh.

The whole purpose for having a quality machine at home is freshness. You pull each espresso shot on demand with just the right amount of ground beans hoping for an excellent beverage.

Beans will retain there flavor for many years if they are green but when they have been roasted they start to lose their flavor. Once the coffee is ground it will begin losing flavor in an hour and worse yet after it is brewed it loses flavor within minutes.

So you might be asking yourself how do I keep the beans fresh? Well right or wrong here is what I do. First I only fill the bean hopper of my platinum vision espresso machine with enough beans to last me a couple of days at a time. I place any extra coffee beans into a container which needs to be airtight and freeze them. A lot of critics don’t promote this way of storage but I have had no problems with it. Only keep a resonable quantity of beans in there at any given time. Because the fridge has odors and moisture the freezer tends to work best.

Once I need to thaw the beans I will store a small amount of beans, enough for around 5 days tops in an airtight container and store that in a cool dry place.

Following this method always provides me with ample fresh tasting beans for use in my beloved Gaggia Platinum Vision espresso machine.
