When most cooks think of using a roaster oven, they usually think about cooking a turkey or some other large meal. However, with the right roaster oven recipes, a wide selection of foods can be prepared in them and not always in a quantity to fit the size of the inner pan. Roaster ovens, sometimes heated by electrical, can supplement the kitchen as a cooker or as a steamer and utilized for a selection of cooking purposes.
Another common use for roaster ovens is a s a warmer to keep food hot for later use. For example, chicken and pastas can be cooked and then placed in the roaster oven at low heat to keep them warm. Many roaster ovens are equipped with an inner lining in which the food is placed and the bottom can hold a small quantity of water to keep the food moist. Many roaster range recipes but don’t call for water in the outer lining.
Straightforward roaster range recipes can include baking potatoes while not having to wrap them in foil and placed in the cooker. Simply wash the potatoes and pierce them numerous times with a little knife or a fork. Place them in the inner lining so they do not touch the sides and bake at 400-degrees for about an hour. Test them with a fork before removing them, but they can bake just as they might in the regular range, using much less electricity.
Many of the roaster oven recipes allow meals to be made for large groups of people such as at family reunions or large parties. To make smaller quantities you would simply reduce the amount of each ingredient and cut the cooking accordingly. For instance, if the recipe is for thirty servings to cook for an hour, the food should be prepared in forty five minutes. Always determine the food is cooked to safety standards before serving.
Another favorite of the roaster cooker recipes is for seasoned rice and the following recipe is for thirty folk. Using 8 cups of uncooked rice, add two big spoons of minced onion, dried, together with 8 cups each of chicken broth and boiling water and a half cup of butter. Pre-heat the stove, the insert pan out of the unit and when it reaches 350-degrees, replace the insert and cook for about 90-minutes with the lid on. The rice will cook up plump and juicy with the flavor of the chicken broth.
