The Slow Cooker’s History

The slow cooker’s origin is not from long ago.. Back in the beginning of the 1960s, the electric bean cooker was first made by the “West Bend Corporation”. This cooker was introduced as the Bean pot.. It was basically a crock pot on a tray. The Beanery was the actually the first true forerunner for slow cookers. “Naxon Utilities Corporation” was responsible for developing that one.

Rival Industries purchased Naxon in 1970 in which gave them the rights for the Beanery. This began Rival’s exploration into the world of slow cookers. With the same method, the company found that many types of foods cooked magnificently. The 25,000 cookers were given out and made available to the public during 1971 as the first official Crock-Pot.

With this product, in the year 1974, its inside crock could be removed for cleaning in which became another innovation. Also people were encouraged to save energy. The usage of low-wattage Crock-Pot made it easier.

With more women holding down jobs, Rival started to show them how easy fixing meals would be with their slow cooker. Rival identified it would be appealing to women wherein they could cook food while they were away and working. After which, other versions were made by other companies by the mid 70s.. Although, a lot of them are no longer around.

In the market today, Rival remains to lead in slow cooker. The 85 percent of the market is largely directed by them. The assortments of different models offer a variety of sizes. Over the years, these models have proved to be extremely useful.

Now that it has automatic controls and timers, these effectively help do their cooking. For the cookers of today, a lot of cookbooks have been written chock full of meal recipes.

Probably, Rival slow cookers are still the best known cooker but not the only brand existing today. For larger families, you can look for deluxe large-size models. From beef stew to chuck roast, you can cook everything in them.

Chili, spaghetti sauce, and any one-pot meal are some of the great recipes suited to cooking in it. Due to a busy life these days, everyone’s using a slow cooker more frequently.

From 16-ounce size through 7.4 quart is its range..4-quart size. This is the crock’s size. There are mostly different heat settings, either high or low, and for some have a warming setting. The high setting temperature has 190 degrees up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit in heating food while the low setting has 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

A certain amount of liquid is also needed to cook food correctly. This amount varies depending on what you are cooking. So follow a cookbook’s instructions on this matter or the operating instructions that come with the manual.

Rice cookers are another innovation that has occured from slow cookers.. The derivatives of original slow cookers are special rice cookers. This extremely convenient cooking tool goes on as well as its history.
